The Dowager Empress Cixi’s rise from relative obscurity as a low-ranking Imperial Consort to effective ruler of China will be explored, as will her innovative strategy to preserve and strengthen Imperial rule, whilst at the same time modernising China.
David has in excess of 25 years of experience working and living in East Asia. Whilst living in Hong Kong he assembled a collection of approximately 700 predominantly Qing Dynasty (from 1644-1911) Imperial and related textiles, costume and dress accessories.
Membership for the year is $145 per person, $270 per couple. Students under 18 $10.Visiting members from other societies $5. Guest are welcome with a $25 entry fee.
